I just took my first vacation as a freelance writer, and you'll never guess what happened...
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Well, that's not entirely true. I had a fantastic time road-tripping with my partner to Bruges and Amsterdam.
We walked around the cobblestone cities and ate our weight in Belgian chocolate 🍫, waffles 🧇, and stroopwafel (so much fun to say out loud; try it!), AND went shopping in every small independent boutique we could find.
But what I mean is all the worry, stress, and fretting about if someone would need me and I would need to log onto my computer and frantically type at all hours of the night, causing us to miss our reservation to see the tulips, which only bloom ONCE A YEAR... 🌷😵
The stress was pointless.
Before I left, I told all my clients I was going on holiday. I would only be available if there was an emergency. And guess what? There were no emergencies.
So not only did I have a kick a** holiday where I saw some of the best sights, ate amazing food, and came back with more clothes than I needed...
I set clear boundaries that allowed me to properly relax and refuel so that when I returned, I would be 100% ready to take on any new challenges. 🔋
As a freelancer, I know how difficult it can be to turn your working brain off. But it was worth it for five days of fun with my partner.
Fellow freelancers out there, let me know if you struggle to leave your work brain at home when you book yourself time off. I can't be the only one, right?🤔
